To the Bryn Mawr Community:
Universities and colleges have unique power structures that fortify them against organizing and activism. Their intentionally confusing decision-making processes and workflows make it difficult to track who holds power and who doesn’t, and how to further popular demands. In recent years, on campus repression has been further used to bolster the university and its command over the dissenting voice. Protestors, instead of being ignored by the university or sent through endless circles of administrative meetings, are being suspended. Professors are being fired. Staff members are being sanctioned. In these times, when universities are tightening their grip on power and money in the face of political activism, it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and mobilize.
This website attempts to make Bryn Mawr’s processes more transparent to the community and provide histories and tools for those interested in making change within the university. You’ll find information on the Board of Trustees, the President’s office, and past organizing at Bryn Mawr. Further, you’ll find additional resources and toolkits that expand upon information contained in the previous sections.
Bryn Mawr’s power structures are sustained to work against student voices and activism, and it is our responsibility to educate and mobilize ourselves to build upon and honor the past work of BIPOC, minority, undocumented, and international Bryn Mawr students, faculty, and staff.
We must strive to continue the work of the 2020 Strike. We must strive to continue the work of the People’s College for the Liberation of Palestine. We must strive to continue the push for our voices to be heard and our demands to be met.
In solidarity.
